Extract of sample "Should Discrimination be in the Modern World"

In the current world, discrimination has had to take different and more complex forms. Sometimes racial status drives it but by the attributes and the traits associate in terms of culture or statistics with race. Some people can perhaps sometimes hire blacks who are able to dress, act or talk in some way, but they are unwilling to hire black who can deviate from the employer's norms. Treating someone else unfavorably because of certain race or personal characteristics that associate with race, including skin color, and facial features among others, is quite uncalled for in the current societies. Sometimes discrimination of race and color involves people getting some treatment unfavorably just because he or they had to marry or married some persons of a certain race or color. Sometimes it happens when the person with the race-based organization is to some extent relating to people of some color. The worse include discrimination that does occur when the person who imposed the discrimination and the victim do have the same race or color.

In the book “one amazing thing,” Divakaruni demonstrates some racial discrimination she has had to prevail in the matter of marriage. For instance, Malathi in the story unfolds the conversation between Ravi and Nirmala. Ravi is the one son of Mrs. Balan, who is a hairstylist at Lola’s parlor, in which case Malathi joins as the beautician. Nirmala, who is a servant maid with whom Ravi exchanges kisses. Unfortunately, his mother gets them red-handed. It is at this point that Ravi threatens his mother. The Threat is that he will flee back to America if she goes ahead to fire Nirmala from her Job. Mrs. Balan had to permit Nirmala to stay. When Mr. Balan had to enquire Ravi secretly whether he wants to have some settlement with Nirmala in a flat for her to visit without disrupting the house peace, Ravi had to say that he had no intention to take advantage of her. In addition, there is the demonstration of Naina, in which case she had to insist on her parents that she would marry none apart from Mangalam. Naina’s father had hopes that Mangalam would keep Naina happy. However, Naina becomes a dominating wife and does not respect Mangalam’s parents, and hence, she showed some discrimination (Divakaruni).

In my opinion, discrimination in any form of banking, housing, employment, or business among others is illegal, and hence, it is against the law. Many societies in the current world do not approve of discrimination based the gender or race. They consider the words racist and sexist as serious accusations both in legal terms or otherwise. Practicing discrimination results in negative impacts on both parties. The one that undergoes discrimination feels dehumanized, discouraged, and frustrated. This will hence deny such people humanity. On the other hand, the one who spearheads discrimination might be subject to hate or inferiority, in which case it will isolate them from the larger portions of society. Therefore, this conversation depicted in “one amazing thing” need not happen at all. They should embrace each other for the well-being of their families (Masters).

Moral scholars have had to describe discrimination as detrimental treatment or consideration. They reiterate that individuals ought not to feel harmed in order to experience discrimination. Instead, the scholars say they have to have a treatment that is worse than others with reasons. For instance, when some make the decision to help orphan children but decide to donate small to black people out of the attitude of race, then he or they will be acting in some discriminatory way. The people feeling the discrimination will also benefit by having the money donated to them. Therefore, in my opinion, should be an outdated issue and should not be in the current world.
