Personal Essays for Winning Scholarship 1. Personal Motivations Being a member of the faculty of (customer’s university/institute), this scholarship is a main objective for acquiring valuable education and training to play pivotal role for community development. Since this scholarship program concentrates on young women researchers, the aspirant can participate significantly in higher education, especially for women in engineering field. In the field of chemical engineering, the drag reduction in turbulent flows by additives, my study proposal for this masters programme, deals greatly with oil and gas industry. Currently, there is a big need of updated and upgraded faculty in the universities of Uzbekistan which can prepare the professionals for this field. One of the most important benefits of this program is to have education in multicultural environment. This is great aspect of the every scholarship program because the scholar shares about his/her country’s cultural, economic and political grounds etc., and the other scholars, who are in same program, share about their countries. When a scholar returns to homeland, after successful completion of the programme, he/she is reorganized and widened. The process of transformation of knowledge in multiculturalism makes a scholar very open minded and developed in thoughts and actions. Moreover, during the engineering masters program, all the scholars experience usage of state of the art technologies in industries in different countries. So, every kind of experience a scholar wants to utilize in his/her own country. In my opinion, to serve homeland and community has been importantly motivational point of almost all the scholars. 2. Specific constraints faced as a scientist including gender-related issues Uzbekistan allots nearly 8-9% of GDP for education sector in which promotional projects for science and technology are included. Nearly 35, 15 universities and 20 institutes, higher education institutions are established in which above 300,000 students are registered. The percentage of science students is more than 60% because the government shows great interests in food and packaging, agricultural, chemical, telecommunication, information technology and iron and steel industries. And the scientists are provided funds to conduct their researches country wide and abroad. In spite of these facts, there are some challenges which the government faces regarding science education. Foreign based or private science and technology university or institute has not been established yet. There is very little number of foreign and foreign returned faculties. The young scientists, especially girls, cannot afford to go to abroad and get education. Moreover all students cannot be given scholarships as the resources do not allow. Thus, at this stage, scientists have a few choices to utilise their capabilities. But, slowly and gradually, the various programmes to prepare the faculty of science are started. The scholarship and subsidiary schemes for students and researchers, and the permission for foreign universities to open their branches in Uzbekistan are the remarkable steps taken by the government to reduce the hindrances for scientists. 3. The situation of women science & engineering academics in your country This vision of the government for women in higher education is to empower the female students to acquire education in oil and gas, engineering, medicine, media, aviation, architecture, business, defense, diplomats and other fields. The free and easy loan schemes for female students, to get higher education in engineering and other fields, have brought massive growth of female students registration. In 1995, only (19% )of female got admission in higher education institutions. The ( 39% )out (19%) could be successful to have admission in engineering studies. In 2005, the percentage went four times high and great number of female students got admission in engineering sector. (15 higher education institutes) have the science and engineering faculties. My university has (12 science and engineering) disciplines and (34% ) female students are enrolled, and (25 %) female faculty has been hired. The female faculty has been provided the facilities of seminars and trainings for learning new technologies. Still, there is great need to create easy grounds for females concerning higher education in science and engineering divisions. 4. Family and Financial situation I belong to a medium class family. My father serves as teacher (in High School level or etc) and my mother is retired from the (government or private organization) services. We are (3/4) brothers and sisters and all are hardworking and educated. I have burnt my midnight oil to have 25 percent qualities of teacher as this field deals with great responsibility. The scholarship program, as I cannot self finance for abroad education, could help me to be a motivating person. Research Teaching Questions 1. How will your research program be accomplished or carried out As the research program contains some objectives to be accomplished; here are some objectives which will be carried out during the program: Conducting primary and secondary researches Observation of the technologies used in the field The industrial use of the research Day to day troubles faced in oil and gas fields (as the BP’s recent incident of Oil Spill at South American coasts occurred) To find trouble shootings by using To figure out the limitations of my research according to resources and technology in my country Analysis and Evaluation of under progress researches regarding the field In short, the research deals with the particular attention to oil and gas industry. But, various fields of the relative functions, content, and industries will be addressed. And new procedures of applications and the utilisation of experience could be exploited with co-researchers during program and with coming lot of researchers after the programme. New patterns are always required for the purpose of lifelong usage of the research, so the changes in oil and gas industry base technologies and chemical engineering will be carefully kept on the account. The actual purpose of my research is to ensure high participation by the students in chemical engineering to launch green technologies in Uzbekistan. Thus, the research will be carried out for the community and energy sector services. 2. Importance of Research The oil and gas, or as whole energy, sector is very imperative section of the world. On the other hand, global warming and pollution problems are generated by the excessive use of the energy. The developing countries, with low energy resources and intolerance of pollution by transportation, need such technologies which keep countries green. Turbulent drag reduction by additives contribute in oil exploration operations, heavy duty vehicles, fire-fighting operations, irrigation and country wide distribution of natural gas to cities, towns and rural areas. This technology is widely used to keep flow of the energy properly through the pipelines, either short or long pipelines. More research can produce amazing results regarding reduction of cost and consumption. Though the drag reduction phenomenon has caught the attention since its discovery, the detailed mechanism of drag reduction has not been wholly unveiled. And Uzbekistan has not introduced this technology in the industry. So, the most important fact is that Uzbekistan needs this technology to improve the capabilities of industries, especially oil and gas. 3. Motivational point in Research For more than two decades, the world has been facing two great challenges i.e., energy crisis and pollution by vehicles and oil and gas sector. Moreover, slowly and gradually, the energy resources are running short. In this situation, all the fields which give alternatives, for instance green technologies, the process of reduction in consumption of energy and safe and accurate flow of energy, encourage young professionals to play their pivotal role. Turbulent drag reduction by additives, the proposed study for scholarship programme, mainly participates to reduce the severity of problems of the world concerning energy division. 4. How do your master studies fit with your long-term professional goals? It is very important to understand career development and objectives of profession. With updated knowledge of practical grounds appropriate to profession, a person enters into enhanced phases of creativity, productivity and education. The master studies supplies career growth in the shape of research productivity, introduction of technologies used in developed countries and research training environment. Teaching profession needs these programmes to deliver the modernised and reorganised knowledge to young professionals. After successful training, academic excellence could help to guide and promote students for this field. 5. What motivates you most about teaching? The world is nothing without teachers because teaching is the great way to contribute for the betterment of society and a process of lifelong learning. A dedicated teacher always considers teaching profession as a beautiful contribution to his/her homeland and the world. Lots of factors, mainly low salaries of teachers, discourage people to adapt this profession. But the one factor, among the others, eliminates all the disadvantageous factors that high salaried persons are prepared by the teachers. The process of development, generation to generation transformation of knowledge, the concept of modernism and constructive engagements can only be possible through teaching. 6. Expected impact of a master on your career, including a sense of how your home university will value it. The important thing, with masters degree in hand, is that I will continue contributing my abilities in a challenging environment, as there are a few females take interest in chemical engineering field. Furthermore, this program will provide a great boost to my career in drag reduction in turbulent flows by additives. There is no member of faculty, either male or female, in my university has ever done the work in this field. As I am interested Ph.D in this field, I can start the masters programme in my university. Thus, this scholarship, if I get, will be a hope and opportunity to enhance my capabilities that will give a spur to students, particularly female students, of the country. Faculty life and activities encouraging young women in science The XYZ University (mention your university) administration selects faculty by three main considerations: first, the knowledge of field and interests in further research work; second, the teacher’s teaching methodology and interests in extra curriculum activities; and three, teacher must have spirit to promote students from underprivileged class and female students. Moreover, for the promotion of higher education among female students in rural areas, the female professors, lecturers and students from the university are sent to deliver lectures and encourage parents. The funds for female scientists are also increased. And with the efforts of the science faculties of the university, more than (500) female students have got registration in various fields of science, in comparison to year 2000 with (100) female students. To encourage science students, university administration, at the end of every semester, organises a three day science exhibition in which schools and colleges are invited. In the exhibitions, female students are given confidence to take active part. I also boost to female students in chemical engineering department to make small/medium scale projects in their field. The study trips, to visit industries, are also organised which create awareness curiosity in all students, including female, to take great interest in research and industry-oriented education.
