Applying for a Vacancy at an InstitutionScholarship Committee,I hereby apply for a vacancy at your esteemed institution. Since early childhood, I have clearly understood the value of education. Neither of my parents could attend college and encountered many struggles in their professional and personal lives because of this. They vowed to give up all they could to nurture in me the love of learning and the understanding of how important hard work and dedication are. As far as I can picture, I have known my goals in life.

I have always had the passion for science, and optometry has particularly interested me for quite some time. Giving others clear vision has always appealed to me because one cannot see life’s bigger picture without smaller details. Due to my parents’ love and sacrifice through the years, I have managed to devote the energy and time necessary to academic accomplishment despite scarcity of money. I had a 3.9 GPA during my senior year at XYZ High School and was named Salutatorian of the graduating class.

Apart from the focus on my studies, I also worked as a science tutor throughout my high school years in order to contribute to my family’s budget. Moreover, I participated actively in community work outside school during school breaks. Right now, I am in junior year at college, and I major in Biology. I obtained 3.8 GPA, and it is part of my plans to enroll for an Optometry Admission’s Test this spring and apply for graduate school.Vision 2020: The Right to Sight is a global initiative started by the World Health Organization in collaboration with the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness.

The initiative’s goal is to eliminate impaired vision and avoidable blindness. Apart from people who have actively participated in eliminating eye diseases, optometrists have had little chance to participate in the front line fight against the four main preventable blindness-producing conditions aimed at by Vision 2020. The realization of the effect of uncorrected refractive error provides the chance for optometry to take part in a major way to alleviate the loss of vision for the most needy.

I would like to take part in this initiative, and that means I must pursue my dream course to completion. I also recognize that candidates deal with the monster of substance abuse in different personal ways. I look forward to engaging with fellow students on the subject of substance abuse in a bid to campaign against the vice through personal approach aimed at helping individual cases. This is particularly so since some candidates accept substance abuse as something that cannot be corrected easily yet guidance and counseling offer a solution to the problem.

I will also identify like-minded candidates with whom I can create awareness and responsive actions for various cases of substance abuse among candidates. It is through my family’s effort that I successfully cleared junior school and high school, and became the first person in my family to attend college, though I am in need of financial help to achieve what has been a lifetime goal for me and my family. In the event that I am awarded this scholarship, I will carry on with the application of diligence to my studies as I have done to this point.

My first priority will remain education and service to other people, especially the needy. Never will I relinquish my treasured traits of self-motivation, hard work, goal orientation, integrity and passion for excellence. I will hold dear your organization’s name throughout my studies and beyond. Much thanks in advance for your consideration.
