On special occasions and festivals, gifts are a necessity whereas they can be used to brighten up anyone’s day whenever we feel like so. The origin of giving gifts dates back to the past because people have believed in gifting for over so many decades now. In older times, people used to pass on inheritance like a gift. Gifts were exchanged to gain favor or solver disputes among people. Such facts have been recorded in ancient history. The number one reason behind this is to keep the gift a secret until it’s opened by the one it’s meant for.

It raises excitement in the receiver who feels more special over the hard work and thoughtfulness of the giver. They feel happy even before opening the gift. The most obvious reason behind giving a gift is some sort of special occasion where receiving and giving is a tradition. Holidays like Christmas and Easter, birthdays, weddings and other special days all have been fixed for gift giving. Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are the days when you can buy your mom the favorite vase that she liked in the store nearby because it’s all about gratitude.

Employees can be awarded for their work, graduations and childbirths all are moments when you can exchange gifts. It all began in Ancient Rome, when people used to give gifts for special days. The gifts at first were small and eventually they grew over time. In Christian faith, gifts symbolize the presents given to the baby Jesus by the wise men and even became a symbol of reminder of Christ’s birth. Church leaders of that time tried to suppress the gift giving which is ironic, but the believers were too habituated with the tradition that they couldn’t let it go.
