?Can racism be managed away? Introduction to racism Racism is such a big nuisance that its existence poses quite a few issues for people all over theworld. This is because its aftereffects and consequences have played largely in the hands of the ones who manipulate the people and their viewpoints as and when they wish to. Racism is a problem area as it makes individuals realize that they are being treated shabbily on the basis of their cast, creed, race or even gender differences. This is something that shakes the trust of any society and it never goes down well with anyone (Rodriguez, 2011:121). For the discussion in the following paragraphs, racism will be touched upon to make sure that its removal is of utmost essence as nobody appreciates racism to come to the fore for creating havoc of magnanimous proportions. This paper discusses how racism can be done away with from the face of this globe through proper efforts and undertakings, and how the collective role of the society can be used in the favor of creating a more beneficial environment. Definition of racism It is imperative to find out what racism in essence is. Racism is defined as a belief that all members within a meticulous race have distinct characteristics or skills which are specific to this very race. It is indeed a form of stereotyping or typecasting people as per their racial backgrounds which is simply an unacceptable norm within the modern domains of this world. Racism is essentially filled with prejudice and discrimination because its basis is set on the wrong footing. The beliefs that bring up such discussions are inherently racist in nature and the ones who indulge in these acts are vehemently opposed by people all around. How can racism be managed? When it comes to drawing a line between what can be deemed as acceptable under the racism domains and what is simply not feasible to suggest, the need is to comprehend where this line shall emanate from. Since racism takes its basis from creating a segregated society, doing away with it would always seem the most righteous of objectives. On the same token, the ones who propagate racism should be taken to task by the fundamental leaders of the society, who could be just about anyone dealing with the nuances. Racism is inherently a bad tool for spreading disharmony and there is good reason why it should be avoided at all costs. If the tools behind spreading racism are being used in an outright fashion, the role of the society as well as the government becomes even more significant to understand. This will make sure that the negativities within the system are taken care of and tackled in an adequately sound manner. The requirement is to make sure that racism is seen as a peril at all times and done away with at the earliest (Murakawa, 2012:44). Managing racism is therefore an art that not many can master. It requires immense patience and understanding more than anything else. Also empathy seems to be the main factor that comes up whenever racism is spoken of, even though this might be suggested of in a wholly negative fashion. Role of the society in dealing with racism As a society, the responsibility of its individuals is to make sure that racism is shown the door at all times. This is because the role of the society today and even in the yesteryears was seen as a very pivotal one, especially against forces which created segregation amongst the people on different levels. When people are treated shabbily due to factors that are not of their own making, this creates a general sense of mistrust amongst all and sundry. There is more anarchy that is grown and developed which one can estimate at any other point in time. Thus it is always good on the part of the society to deal with these nuances in a head-on manner which makes people feel alienated from one another on a number of trivial counts. When the society inculcates proper methodologies to combat racism, its inmates also understand the true value of equality and avoid racism at all costs. However, when racism is rampant, then there are bound to be serious problems which shall be encountered on different levels. The people will face the brunt of it in varied settings within their lives and hence these problems will increase with the passage of time. The elders within the society must also comprehend their due roles before telling the people what they owe to each other (Pincock, 2008:111). This is needed because it sets the basis for achieving peace and harmony across the board. More than anything else, it is the equality factor which shall rule the roost within such scenarios because racism is a dirty factor that avoids its upbringing within any societal manifestations. How the society can help? The role of the society is always significant under such equations where racism is at its worst possible level. The society can help when it draws a perfect line between what is acceptable and what is simply not. Any transgressions that take place are strictly dealt with so that no one suffers in the end. This is much needed because it sets the basis for achieving quite a few tasks within the relevant thick of things. The society can also help by telling its people that they must exercise restraint at all times. This will enable them to have a much better environment in general and build positive relations with the respective societal members on a regular basis. These elements are deemed as significant because they help in garnering mutual trust and confidence amongst the people which is always necessary to have under such scenarios where racism is taken up as a negatively instigating factor. There is a dire need to find out where anomalies actually lie and how these can best be avoided to bring about sanity for all concerned. This will facilitate the people in terms of better decision making tenets and ask of them to keep away from racism as much as possible. Role of literature with regards to racism The secondary research available through different means in this day and age point out their anger towards racism and how it has been propagated wrongly all over the world. The scholars, researchers and the like suggest that racism is given air because it creates a sort of negativity amongst people and makes them feel alienated with one another. There is tremendous amount of angst and despair that resonates once racism is spoken of. This is enough to say that racism is a social deterrent for any religion, nationality or any other basis of humanity that is talked about. The literature that is readily available therefore presents a situation where these scholars and researchers have written a great deal about how racism is a bane and how it can best be avoided through dialogue, understanding and empathy on all fronts. If only the people comprehended their due responsibilities and defended their respective roles in a quantifiable manner, there would be less anarchy and disharmony that seems to exist in the present day and age (Camara, 2002:86). Individual efforts to do away with racism On a personal level, racism can be done away with if concerted efforts are made on a proactive basis. Since people suffer due to racism on one count or the other, it would be useful to know how they can best avoid it for their own betterment. For starters, it is always a good idea to treat everyone in an equal way. This will resolve quite a few problems as far as racism is related. It will also tackle the situation of rising unrest within the terrains of the society. It will tell the people where they are going wrong and what corrective measures they need to take in order to bring sanity within their realms. Individual efforts to do away with racism have always been appreciated at large and these will continue to be such in the coming times nonetheless (Dymski, 1992:124). When people know that they can be treated in much the same manner if they are indulging in racial discrimination and similar talks, then they will think it better to avoid it more than anything else. Individual efforts to do away with racism are always seen as reflective of the mission that any society of the world indulges in, in the long run scheme of things. It guarantees that all is well with the people who believe in equality and fairness for one and all. What opinion leaders can do to thwart such domains? The opinion leaders have a huge amount of say in creating positive viewpoints against racism as it starts to develop for all the wrong reasons. Since these opinion leaders are respected across the board, making use of them would not be a bad idea. They can educate the people about the negatives involved with racism and how they can do away with such realms. They can encourage a fair participation on the part of everyone to have a healthy competition rather than getting involved within rifts, fights and petty issues. These opinion leaders could comprise of various celebrities, sportspersons or any other. What is required is a will to set things right within the settings of any society of the world with a good heart and this shall take place once people understand what they are being taught about. For these opinion leaders to realize their respective roles, it is of paramount significance to know that education plays a huge role at telling them what they need to do in order to welcome sanity within the societal undertakings. Recommended ways to remove racism from all walks of life Some of the best ways to do away with racism once and for all is to award such individuals who do not mingle within these affairs. What this shall eventually mean is the fact that those people who believe in equality and oneness of mankind irrespective of their differences must be given accolades and recognized for their outstanding efforts and endeavors. They should be encouraged so that the rest of the people also take a leaf out of their book. Racism can also be done away with when the education at the shallowest level is drafted in such a way that the young ones know beforehand that racism is never appreciated under any situation whatsoever. It will allow them to differentiate where they are going wrong and how best they can avoid the small talk of racism since it creates more anarchy and disorder across the board (Macionis & Plummer, 2011). Hence it is always a good omen for the people from different walks of life if they know the distinction between how racism can be enacted for their own wrongdoing and how it can best be avoided. This will be the basis of knowing further how society understands the notion of change since it is a much significant entity if seen properly within the relevant scheme of things. Conclusion To summarize the discussion at hand, it would be correct to state that racism is the single biggest deterrent towards creating sanity within this world. If proper efforts and measures are enacted, it would not take too long to counter this threat once and for all. The requirement is to have a will and determination to set things right for the sake of the entire society and the people of this world. Empathy shall be seen as the buzzword when understanding other cultures, races and religions. If people started comprehending the rights of others, there would be fewer instances of racism than they are present in the present times. The time is now to make the right move – one which ensures that this world is free of prejudice and discrimination in the name of racism. Bibliography Camara, B., 2002. Ideologies of race and racism.
