Pro-Choice The discussion about whether abortion should be forbidden or allowed obviously is very contradictory becauseit concerns quite opposite ethical positions, which all seem reasonable on closer examination. Opponents of abortion claim that life is the highest priority and nobody is morally permitted to decide whether it can be discontinued by the will of a person. However, proponents of abortion argue that abortion is the matter of a particular woman and her body, so it is for her to decide whether she wants to go through the experience of being pregnant and giving birth, or she wants to get rid of the embryo and set herself free from the suffering. I think that the pro-abortion choice (Pro-choice) is more liberate, because giving birth is the matter of a woman and her life. There are multiple reasons why sometimes having abortion is more profitable for both the mother and the child than forcing to have the baby and ruin their lives for good. Thus, the most crucial argument for abortion is that giving birth to a child is the personal matter of each woman, because it concerns her body, which belongs to her only, and its health. As far as in order to give a birth a woman should go through rough times of suffering and physical discomfort, she might not want it for herself, so having abortion is the best way for her to avoid such unpleasant feelings. Because the fact that body is a very personal kind of possession, it is probably the most individual property ever, so a person can do whatever one wants with one’s own body. However, being pregnant means holding huge responsibility not only for safety of one’s own body but also for the well-being of another body. Such a significant responsibility is very risky for multiple reasons. First, if something bad happens to the embryo, the woman’s body also suffers and her health worsens. Such situation might even lead to lethal outcome. Hence, some women just don’t want to take this risk and prefer to preserve their health, which is normal and is definitely welcomed. As for the other kind of responsibility, which concerns the child’s body, it is understandable why a woman might not want to hold it. The point is that a baby is a very fragile creature and it is absolutely helpless, so having a baby is rather time-consuming, because baby demands a lot of attention and constant care. Furthermore, holding responsibility for oneself is normal and inevitable for every human being, when taking responsibility for another person is quite optional. However, as far as a person deals with one’s own baby, this responsibility for someone else becomes inevitable too, so many women just don’t want to hold it, and therefore they don’t have to. Moreover, childcare requires not only a lot of time but also significant financial resources, which is not affordable for many women. There are multiple cases when pregnant women decide to have abortions for financial reasons. They might be abandoned by the fathers of their future children and not being able to feed the babies, which frequently happens in modern society. Or they also might already have children and having another one would turn their lives into constant working in order to afford so many things that children demand. This may result in unhappiness not only of the new born baby but of the whole family as well. Thus having a baby might even mean getting oneself into depression and constant working in order to provide one’s own child with everything what is needed. Thus it is even better when a woman is capable of estimating her financial capacity and making a sober estimate of what kind of life she would be able to afford for her child. On the contrary, a woman who decides to give a birth to her child without knowing what she will be doing later, when the child will be delivered, seems more reckless. There are a lot of situations when women underestimate their capabilities and believe that having a child is nothing difficult, so they could manage this task. Although when they come home, holding their babies without any knowledge what to do, it doesn’t seem to them that the task is really that simple. Such women start realizing that they could have done so much if had they had abortion, but it is too late to think about the possibility. So they often can’t find jobs and don’t have any idea how to cover the expenses; moreover, they are lack of free time and are constantly devastated by childcare. Such situations ruin the women’s lives and their children bring no happiness to them; furthermore, they might even start blaming their children for their unhappiness, which is obviously harmful for their mental condition. Such sad consequences could have been avoided if only the women had an abortion. Another reason why abortion shouldn’t be forbidden is because the women who were forced to give birth to their undesired babies might simply abandon their children, who in most cases become mentally traumatized people in the future. The rates of abandoned children and orphans are already high, so not all of them are lucky to be adopted. Thus such children live their entire lives with the feeling of being abandoned and unloved. Many of them get into bad environment and become criminals full of hatred and desire to hurt others. The morally traumatized people are not happy with their lives and might even wish not to be born at all. Thus there is no point of giving birth to a child if this child will be unhappy throughout one’s entire life and will bring harm to other people. Also, there are a lot of discussions around the issue whether an embryo might be considered as a living human being. Some claim that there is no soul in an embryo, so it is just a small piece of flesh that has no features of life until the certain age. If it is so, then an embryo entirely belongs to the woman’s body and it is her right to decide what she wants to do with it. Moreover, if it isn’t so, then it doesn’t change the fact that anyway embryo belongs to its mother’s body, because it can’t even survive without her body until being born. Thus one way or another if an embryo is considered to be a part of someone’s body, than it is up to the owner of this body to make decisions concerning it. Furthermore, there are some inevitably harmful situations when abortion is the best choice whatsoever. For instance, when parents discover that their future child has some terminal disease, which would turn their child’s life into a nightmare. Hence, what is the point to give a birth to a child who would hate one’s own life for not being normal and will be suffering throughout the entire lifetime? Another situation when abortion is best for a woman is when she was a victim of sexual harassment and got pregnant, so the child would be the constant reminder of the trauma for her, which is bad not only for her mental health but for the child’s development as well. Thus abortions should be legalized and allowed for multiple reasons. Because in fact it is obvious that having abortion or not is a complicated choice for women, thus if they decide to discontinue their children’s lives, there must be some really significant reasons for such decision.
