Peaceful Warrior - Assignment Example

Introduction

The movie ‘Peaceful Warrior is a 2007 drama film directed by Victor Salva and based on the novel ‘Way of the Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman. The story is about a college gymnast student named after the author of the novel who is a champion but cannot utilize that potential because he is so obsessed with attaining victory. This essay is going to review the movie whilst trying to answer the question: how can YOU become a peaceful warrior?

Body

Socrates is the main man in Dan’s life as he helps him achieve the victory that he had seemingly lost because of his obsession. Dan’s obsession had made him restlessness. He meets Socrates by chance while running one morning and he has to agree Socrates is intelligent. He knows him and his problems. With Socrates' help, Dan is able to cherish every second as Socrates tells him that “there are no ordinary moments” (Peaceful Warrior), every moment is special. He pays more consideration to things he is doing at the moment rather than thinking about winning and he also learns the art of control.

This movie is a catchy movie that will help so many people since many people are obsessed with the end rather than the present.  This movie does not tell one how to achieve peace but rather demonstrates how to achieve it. People must learn to enjoy the present by being intent on what they are doing to attain peace and achieve success. This is because living in the past or future makes you your own obstacle and the end cannot be victorious. In the movie, Dan’s school wins even though he had an accident that could have hindered his success. He chooses not to live in the future or in the past but in the present and he excels in the competition.

Conclusion

Just as Socrates says “…you cannot attain happiness it attains you…but only after you surrender everything else” (Peaceful Warrior). This is the way one can become a peaceful warrior and achieve success without too much stress.
