Some vitamins such as vitamin C, is identified with ascorbic acid and indications are then specified in milligram-percentages as to the ascorbic acid contented of a food. In other words, nutrition in the modern viewpoint is views humans as a complex mechanism (Hauschka 1). Dieting on the other hand, is termed as the process which involves selection of prescribed foods for the purpose of the body to get the nutrients it desires. Choosing or selection of foods with intensions to get the required nutrients form them may be involving.

It may require a person to know various food groups, bearing in mind the nutrients it provides to the body. This is usually done through dietary guidelines with recommendations from nutritionist; different people have different metabolic rates depending of the physical activities they do, hence a prescribed dietary guidelines for a person who does heavy activities like gym is different from that of a person working in an office. However, age and sex has to be taken into consideration when prescribing a dietary guideline for a person; a young child in given different proportions of carbohydrates to that of a mature person, consequently, male children should take food with higher proportion carbohydrates compared to female children.

In broadest sense, this deference occurs due to the difference in the body needs so as to cater for the regular physical activities they do (DeBruyne and Pinna 21). Each food group has a key nutrient, they characteristic provides a flexibility in diet planning; a person may and choose several food from a food group and provide same nutrient, for example, a selection of milk, yogurt or cheese offers the same nutrient to that which milk offers. On the same note, legumes such as meat, fish and chicken provides protein, iron and zinc.
