Motivation Techniques in Workforce Introduction Workers that perform well in jobs have combination of good environment to work on, good skills, good management, great skills, encouragement etc. The factors that positively contribute to performance of workers should be improved while those that contribute negatively should be eradicated. Sharing the vision of Big Ray’ Company to its employees is the best HR strategy. This motivates them to work better because they have goals and objective to accomplish. Human resource management involves working with employees who are dedicated and committed to a company. Big Ray’s company is supposed to have good human resource policies (Bernanke 23). It gives fair treatment to all employees and has no-layoff policy. It is recommended that the human resource managers be motivating their employees to be more productive by offering incentives. The incentives include medical cover, gifts etc. Establish a Team Spirit There is a need at Big Ray’s company to promote a team spirit where everyone in the organization is made to believe that they “are in this thing together” (Bernanke 25). This will apply to all managers and employees. Great things will be achieved when people work together. Communicate with Employees Communication problems are supposed to be resolved in order to enhance loyalty. Lack of communication is interpreted by employees as not caring. Open and frequent communication with employees at Big Ray’s company will build trust and diminishes fear. Communication is important because employees will air their grievances and make suggestions. This is important at the Big Ray’s company because of the nature of the job. This should be maintained because it boosts the morale of workers. Incentives Motivation is important in any work place because it increases job performance (Bernanke 27). Employees who are motivated to work by being given bonuses increases their output than their counterparts who are not given bonuses, financial incentives etc. An Environment that is Conducive Employees work well in environment that is free of too much noise and health hazards. For example, the area where the materials at Big Ray’s company is handled, cut and processed is loud and dangerous. This is supposed to be reduced in order to compete with their competitors who offer good working conditions to their employees. The environment that is likely to cause accidents like in a factory with sharp machines lower the performance of employees because of fear of injuring themselves. Ability It is always advisable that people be qualified and have skills in their work place. Otherwise, lack of knowledge and skills in the work place lower job performance. This is the major reason why there was low production at the Big Ray’s company. Big Ray’s company is supposed to offer training to its existing employees in order to improve their working efficiency. Good Management There are numerous effects of good management. Good governance enables a business to have a loyal labor force. Employees become committed in an organization that is well organized. Good governance enables effective interviewing and hiring procedures. This is implemented to ensure that new employees will effectively grow and mature with the new business. There is also good response to pressures such a key employee threatening to quit. The management of people can affect job performance either positively or negatively. Assigning of duties that do match the education qualification of employees or expecting too much from them can lower job performance (Hisrich 53). Mismanagement of labor force at the Big Ray’s company could lead to strikes, poor quality of work, grievances, absenteeism and eventually law suites. Maintaining HR Big Ray’s company can improve its work force by having a good paperless system of storing data to its employees. One such program is called PRISM HIRS which records any information pertaining to a worker. This program record jobs posting, applicants and training information. It is important to maintain this strategy because information can never be lost. Information stored in files is mostly misplaced. Achieving Long-Term Production & Sales Goals Achieving Production Goals Good Governance Good governance will prompt the manager to respond to pressures such as an unsatisfied customer and a supplier reneging on a contract (Hisrich 55). Customers were not satisfied at the Ray’s company because the workforce could not handle increased orders and hence didn’t keep deadlines. It is therefore important that good governance be maintained at the company so that deadlines can be met. Resources are managed well when there is governance. This is the role of the person in charge to allocate resources. The manager must decide who gets what. This involves delegation of budgets and responsibilities. The allocation of resources is a hard process for a manager since one decision can significantly affect other decisions (Ramon 76). This is what happens at the Big Ray’s company. Big Ray does not care about material specifications and this affects the production cost which is normally high. Assigning of responsibilities to employees who have abilities, skills and experience in purchasing and handling raw materials at the company will eliminate the raw materials discarded. Achieving Sales Goals A Marketing plan In order for Big Ray’s company to increase their sales, it is important for them to gather information like their customer’s needs, their competitor strengths and weaknesses, good price for their chairs, promotion, distribution and customers that can afford to buy their furniture. This will help them to achieve their long-term sales goals. It is also extremely pivotal for Big Ray’s company to inform its potential customers about their products. They will do this by using advertising media such as print, radio, magazines, branding and television. Larger markets can be reached through internet, direct mail, trade magazines and newspapers. A Financial Plan The major advantage of good financial planning is monitoring profits. The sale goal of Big Ray’s Company is to make profit. A business plan helps in comparison of profits made in different years. This helps in determining if a business is growing or losing. In addition, a business plan enables the calculation of percentage of sales for each year (Ramon 78).
