COMPUTING AND PROGRAMMING WITH MATLAB By Computing and Programming with MATLAB INTRODUCTION Two scenarios are being investigated, one of linear horizontal motion and that of linear vertical acceleration. In traveling through air, the beetle will experience upwards and gravitational force acting downwards. Therefore, to estimate the final velocity of the beetle we need to incorporate the drag force due to air resistance and the gravitational component of the velocity for the beetle to fall one mile below. Determination of the Velocity of the porsch is by empirical and mathematical equations of linear motion. In solving for the freefall velocity of the beetle, we shall make use of the MATLAB high level programming language. In these review we shall investigate two scenarios are, one of linear horizontal motion and that of linear vertical acceleration. Velocity of the Porsche is easy to determine by empirical and mathematical equations of linear motion. In solving for the freefall velocity of the beetle, we shall make use of the MATLAB high level programming language, which will assist us to compute and display the results. MATLAB programs work hand in hand with various softwares related to programming languages such as JAVA, C++, FORTRAN python, including other windows compatible applications. In these review we shall design for a MATLAB program to calculate the travel time and velocity of two vehicles one moving horizontally while the other moving vertically downwards to cover a distance of one mile (1609m) METHOD First, we estimate the time of travel of the beetle from this relation h = 1/2 gt2 v2 = 2gh v = gt v is velocity of beetle g is gravitational acceleration = 9.8m/s h is height of freefall, =1609m t is time of travel Or 1609=1/2*9.8*t^2 t^2=1609/4.9 = 328.4 t = 18.12 s but v^2 = 2gh Or v^2 = 2*9.8*1609 thus v = 177.6m/s (beetle velocity) DRAG FORCE Minimum drag force (Fd) Fd = 0.46*2.58*1.2*(31533.2/2) =22454.2 Maximum drag force Fd = 1.2*7.1*1.2*(31533.2/2) = 161197.7 Velocity rate at zero drag force = 9.8 m/s Velocity rate at minimum drag force = 9.8 – (22454.2/1200) = -8.91m/s Velocity rate at maximum drag force = 9.8 – (161197/1200) = -124.5m/s Under conditions of no drag force, the gravitational acceleration is maximum and the beetle will fall freely the whole distance because air resistance is zero When the beetle is, falling nosedive there exists some retardation force acting upwards but is minimal because of the streamline nature of the vehicle as it passes through air. In order to achieve maximum retardation, we shall now cause the beetle to fall flat on the wheels exposing maximum area to air resistance; hence the drag force will be highest consequently reducing the velocity of fall. METHODOLOGY In order to launch this program starts up, we need to initially enter the time and distance for the Porsche to cover the one-mile stretch .we shall then allow MATLAB to calculate the velocity as a function of the two variables. We shall then calculate the drag force by use of the formulae available for both minimum and maximum conditions that is when the beetle falls nosedive or flat on to the wheels. It is now possible to calculate the mean velocity of free fall using drag force, mass of beetle, and gravitational acceleration given by application of the respective equations but MATLAB will also calculate this variables easily by computation. Since there is no distance variation, it is assumed that these two distances are the same, and then we can easily compute the time of travel, which shall be displayed appropriately on a screen. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION MATLAB software are quite expensive and require experience in working with them, however it can be used to simplify complex calculations especially those involving multiple objects and classes. In this case, we have two objects, the beetle and the Porsche the classes are as shown within the respective boxes. The events so described in the race callback on each other, for example the event actions of the Porsche are co-related to events conducted by the beetle. We shall then specify the arguments, which go hand in hand with the functions required. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS These is the best way to solve complex problems and technical computation This is the best way to solve complex problems and technical computation problems, as well as, day-to-day activity, that the programmer may be interested in grouping data and assigning codes to them. Consider this scenario of the mega race between the beetle accelerating downwards and a turbo-powered engine Porsche. We went ahead and regrouped the data into classes and then eventually subclasses thus using object-oriented programming to create a program that will calculate the velocity of one of the vehicles relative to the other and then display the results that have been computed back to the user.
