Arabs and English on Facebook Social media has changed the way we interact with each other. People share bits of their liveswith the online community every day. People tend to post pictures, videos or update statuses saying something small about their day or experiences. The need to say something in person has been eliminated. If any person has something to say about something that they saw online, they can just attach their comment to the post, photo or video that was shared. Facebook is a global phenomenon that has taken root in all countries.

In the English speaking and Arab speaking worlds, the users are numerous. They use the social media site in ways that differ from each other. When Arabs give compliments on Facebook, they use polite, flowery language. They will liken the beauty of a person to something that is precious and valued in the community. The English in Facebook will simply give a word like “Wow.”; followed by a comment about how a dress, for example, accentuates a person’s figure. The compliments tend to be graphic and detailed.

Arabs complimenting a person in Facebook will have a mention of religion. This mention of Allah brings praise to Him as the creator of the beauty the person possesses. It is also used in a respectful manner. English speakers will tend to use the name God in a vain manner like in expressions like “Oh my God.” which doesn’t necessarily indicate that they are referring to God as the giver of that person’s beauty. When complimenting each other, Arabs are also very polite:“Wonderful woman - bringing Joy to many.

”Arabs on social media are kind and the rest of the world could borrow a leaf from them.
