Family-school relations correlated diversities such as social class, ethnicity, family organization, and values. Effective school-family partnerships, trust, and congruence between home and school and their correlation with student achievement

“Parental involvement is associated with higher student attendance, better behavior, and increased time and effort on homework” (Gorman 2004, p.68). Developing a parent-teacher alliance can be considered as a productive working relationship, deliberately formed to achieve shared goals. However, despite the good intention, the teacher's lack of skills in dealing with parents may find their actions questioned, challenged, or even sabotaged by difficult parents. All successful relationships, however, are characterized by mutual respect, a clear understanding of roles, an opportunity for feedback, openness to change or adjustment, similar expectations, and a defined common goal. This research will present the different aspects of parental involvement and issues involving student achievement. The different models of parental involvement and the qualities of the partnership model in enhancing positive mutual interest between teachers and parents on behalf of the children. It will discuss the importance of parental involvement in increasing and sustaining student achievement in school and the obstacles surrounding its successful implementation.

  • The Goal of the Study

The goal of the study is to give a more detailed picture of parental involvement as a means of enhancing students' achievements in school. Study and understand the underlying principles behind the initiative and the different models of parental involvement being implemented in most schools and identify the various factors crucial to its successful implementation.

  • Method of Research

This research will acquire its facts from a literature review of various relevant and reliable books. Conduct a thorough analysis of these facts through discussion and present a summary and conclusion in the remaining part.

  • Literature Review
    • Parental Involvement

“Parents are critical to children’s successes during the school years” (Ballantine 1999). Parental is presented as a unified concept but in fact, typologies of parental involvement, parental roles, and the nature of partnership have all been identified, illustrating the diversity of its practice and interpretation. These interpretations are also variously acceptable or unacceptable to the key actors, depending upon their different constituencies and varying situations (Crozier 2000, p.29).
